ORGANIC INDIGO DYE VATS
This workshop is held at Yakedy Yak, Highpoint Shopping Centre.
In this full day workshop you will learn how to create and maintain three different organic indigo dye vats. You will learn about fibre preparation, safety and more.
We will experiment with a fruit vat, ferrous vat and a fructose vat and dip samples into each.
You will go home with swatches of yarn and fabrics from each vat for your own records, an info sheet with details of how you can continue at home and a small indigo vat.
- Something to transport your samples home in
- Rubber gloves
- Indigo can stain clothing and footwear, so be sure to wear something old! We have some aprons in the studio, feel free to bring your own
- A notebook and pen
- Lunch, water bottle

Cotton fabric and wool samples will be provided and you are encouraged to bring along fibre samples you have that you might like to add to the vat in the afternoon. For example, small lengths of fabric, Small amounts of yarn etc. Natural fibres only (cotton, silk, linen, wool etc) and light in colour. Recycling is encouraged and we recommend pre-washing your items to remove any finish that may be on the fibres. This helps the dye 'stick' to the fibre.
No previous experience necessary.
