Did you watch the Oscars? Oh my! How beautiful were the gowns? It seems old school glamour was the choice of many. I struggled to pick out my favourites, there are just so many but I'm particularly in love with the gowns below.
Cate Blanchett wore an Armani dress embroidered with Swarovski crystals.
Jennifer Lawrence wore Dior.
Charlize Theron was also dressed in Dior.
Sandra Bullock wore an Alexander McQueen dress.
Kate Hudson wore Atelier Versace.
Angelina Jolie looked stunning in Elie Saab.
The men are often overlooked on the red carpet but this year the white tuxedo stood out on Matthew McConaughey (in Dolce & Gabbana), Jared Leto (Saint Laurent), and Ryan Seacrest (Burberry).
Pharell Williams went for something different!
Olga Kurylenko and Kellan Lutz hit the red carpet wearing eco-friendly ensembles.
Kurylenko’s gown, designed by Alice Elia, a fashion student at ESMOD in Paris is 100% GOTS certified organic peace silk and 100% GOTS certified organic silk, hand-dyed with Sappanwood, which produces a reddish-colored dye, then over-dyed with madder root to achieve the resulting shade of red. Her shoes are a collaboration between PETA and U.K. label Beyond Skin and described as “vegan, faux suede, metallic-trimmed shoes [that] are made from Dinamica, a durable material made in Italy from 100% recycled bottle tops.”
Lutz’s tuxedo was designed by Jomnarn Dul from New Zealand menswear brand H. Brothers. His tuxedo jacket is apparently 45% certified silk and 55% rPET, his trousers are hemp dyed with logwood and his waistcoat is made from hemp and 100-year-old Spitalfields silk that was dyed with marigold flowers.
My most favourite gown of them all is that of Lupita Nyong'o. Custom designed by Prada this dress is made up of a simple sunray pleat. There's no need for anything else. I do love a pleat, they are timeless and beautiful if done right and we have more to come on this technique soon.
